When assessing the physical exterior of the QCells QPeak G4.1, instantly there is a lot to like. Respectable build quality, sleek slim-line design and a refined finish free from any excess silicon in the corners on the rear of the module. Committing with attention to detail a little Q is embossed on every cell as a trademark finish to ensure you know it’s genuinely a QCells product.

All of which sounds great, however understanding the fundamentals in design, analysing durability, comparing efficiency, gauging performance, verifying the guarantee and distinguishing the overall affordability will ultimately define the QCells QPeak G4.1 solar module.

Design.

A minimalist black frame design incorporating a base monocrystalline and PERC solar cell technology could have been made all the better if incorporating at least a 5 busbar contact configuration. What is used however is a 4 busbar configuration which says a lot about the efficiency of the QCellls QPeak G4.1 solar modules internal components. Enhanced with the benefits of PERC (Passive Emitter Rear Cell) technology, end users would be wiser to select the Glass-white laminate variant (opposed to glass-black laminate) to achieve maximum yields.

Durability.

The overall durability of the QCellls QPeak G4.1 solar module ticks the right boxes when considering mild environments. Either meeting or exceeding IEC Standards which is a good result. All most common durability criterium were able to be identified which is an even better result. 

Notably, wind loading is superior to most at 4000pa (IEC Standard 2400pa) although this can’t be determined if the loading stated is front wind loading alone or front and rear with no apparent set nomination. PID Free is excellent while Salt Mist & Ammonia resistance meets the highest IEC resistance levels which are outstanding. Resistance to hail impact to only IEC standard, when higher levels exist lowers the durability score slightly. Both Thermal Cycle Test and Damp Heat Test ensure an above average resistance towards the most elements which assists the QCells QPeak G4.1 durability rating.

A maximum 18.9% module efficiency in the 310W variants of the QCells QPeak G4.1 is certainly an above average efficiency although not award winning by any means. Accompanied by a Temperature Coefficient of -0.39%C the QCells QPeak G4.1 will amicably handle warmer temperatures with slightly better performance over the markets mass produced average. A positive power tollerance of up to 3% is excellent and ensures a respectable efficiency score.

Potentially the most disappointing feature of the QCells QPeak G4.1 is the 12-year product guarantee, here’s why. When assessing the build quality of the overall product it feels like the manufacturer support of the guarantee period could be so much more. Especially when alternative manufactures with lower grade products are promoting the same product guarantee period. What would greatly improve the QCells QPeak G4.1 score would be three minor changes.

  1. I live in Bunbury, Western Australia. I have a 3kw ABB Uno Plus inverter and 13 QCells G-4.1 mono black 300 W panels. In summer over a two month period, they produced 1380 units, I get 47.1 cents a unit. After paying $165 power bill got a credit of $480 very happy with QCells.
