Privacy

We built review.solar to be privacy-first: no ad tracking, no selling of data. This policy explains the limited personal data we do process: when you subscribe, contact us, or ask our AI assistant a question: why we process it, and the rights you have over it under the GDPR.

Who we are

review.solar is published by Solar Analytica Pty Ltd (ACN 653 738 115), based in Perth, Western Australia. For the purposes of the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Solar Analytica Pty Ltd is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at privacy@review.solar.

What we collect, why, and our legal basis

Newsletter. If you subscribe, we process your email address to send you product updates and benchmark news. Legal basis: your consent, given when you tick the box and submit the form. You can withdraw it at any time (see "Your rights"). We confirm each signup by email.

Ask Watt (AI assistant). When you send a message to Watt, your message is processed to generate a response. To do this, the text you type is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) for that single request. Legal basis: your consent, given by choosing to use the assistant. For ordinary product questions, we do not store your conversation, and we ask that you do not enter personal or sensitive information into the chat. The one exception is described below: if you use Watt to submit an industry/partner inquiry, the details you confirm for that purpose are stored, in the same way as the contact and industry-partner forms.

Contact form. If you write to us via the contact form, we process your name, email address and message so we can respond, and store it in our admin system as the record of your enquiry; a copy is also delivered to us by email. If you email us directly instead, your message reaches us by email only. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering messages you choose to send us. We keep either only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up (see "How long we keep it").

Industry partner inquiries. If you submit an inquiry via the industry partner page, or via Watt, we process your company name, work email, role, and any brand/message details you provide, so we can respond to your inquiry. If you use Watt for this, it will show you a plain-text summary of exactly what it is about to submit and ask you to confirm before sending anything; it also records a short summary of the conversation (never a full transcript) so the person following up has context. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering inquiries you choose to send us - the same basis as the contact form. This data is stored (see "Who we share data with" and "How long we keep it") so we can track and respond to your inquiry; it is not used for any other purpose and is not added to the newsletter list.

Partner portal accounts. If we approve your industry partner application, we create an account for you in the partner portal. We process your work email address (to sign you in by one-time link, and to tell you the outcome of a lodgement), the organisation and email domain the account belongs to, and the documents and product details you lodge. Uploaded documents are stored privately: only your own organisation and our editorial team can read them, enforced at the database level and not merely in the interface. Documents are usually company material rather than personal data, but if a datasheet or warranty document contains a named person or a signature, that information is processed as part of the document. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in reviewing the evidence you send us and in keeping an auditable record of what was lodged, by whom and when, which is what allows a published figure to be traced back to its source. A partner account cannot change a score, and lodging documents is free.

Aggregate analytics. With your consent, we use Google Analytics (provided by Google) to understand how the site is used: pages viewed, approximate location and device type. Google Analytics sets cookies and shares data with Google, which may process it in the United States. Legal basis: your consent. Analytics load only if you accept them in our privacy banner, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time via "Privacy choices" in the footer.

Server logs. Like any website, our host briefly processes technical request data (such as IP address) to deliver pages and protect the service against abuse. Legal basis: legitimate interest in security and reliability. These logs are short-lived.

Administrator accounts. Our own staff sign in to a private admin area; this uses an essential session cookie and is not available to the public.

Cookies and local storage

We set no advertising cookies and never sell your data. If you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets cookies to measure how the site is used; if you decline (or ignore) the banner, no analytics cookies are set. We also store one strictly-functional item in your browser's local storage to remember your light/dark theme preference; it never leaves your device. Essential session cookies are used only in the staff admin area. You can accept or decline analytics on your first visit and reopen the choice any time via "Privacy choices" in the footer.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. We share the minimum necessary with trusted service providers ("processors") who act on our instructions:

• Resend: sends our emails and stores the newsletter list. Privacy policy
• Supabase: database and private file storage for the newsletter list, admin accounts, contact messages, industry partner inquiries (form and Watt), partner portal accounts, and the documents lodged through that portal. Privacy policy
• Anthropic: processes your Ask Watt messages to generate responses. Privacy policy
• Vercel: hosts the website. Privacy policy
• Google (Google Analytics): measures how the site is used; sets cookies; may process data in the US. Privacy policy

Some of these providers are based in the United States, so your data may be transferred outside the EU/UK. Where that happens, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep your newsletter email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, after which it is removed from our list and our email provider. Ordinary Ask Watt conversations are not retained after the response is generated. Contact messages and industry partner inquiries (submitted via the form or via Watt) are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up. Server logs are kept only briefly for security.

Partner portal. Documents you lodge, and the record of when they were lodged and what was decided, are kept for as long as they support a published record, which may be indefinitely. That is deliberate rather than incidental: this publication's position is that any figure can be traced back to the document it came from, and deleting the source would break that trail. Withdrawn and not-accepted lodgements are also kept, so the register shows what was considered and not only what was used. Your account itself can be revoked at any time on request, which ends access without erasing the evidence trail; ask us at privacy@review.solar and we will explain what can and cannot be deleted in your case, and why.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing). To exercise any of these, email privacy@review.solar and we will respond within one month. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time via the link in any email or by contacting us. If you believe we have mishandled your data, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

Children

review.solar is intended for a general, professional audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.

External links

Some links lead to manufacturer sites, test-lab reports, or other third-party sources. Once you leave review.solar, this policy no longer applies and we do not control how those sites handle your data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
