Warranty period
Standard product warranty: 5 years
Standard 5-year product warranty from commissioning or a fixed date after shipment, whichever is earlier (typically 6 months after manufacture if commissioning is unregistered). Covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal operating conditions. Registration via MySMA is strongly recommended to fix the commissioning date and avoid start-date ambiguity.
Extended warranty: up to 20 years
Optional extended coverage is available in increments (typically to 10, 15, or 20 years total) through SMA or authorised distributors, generally purchasable within a specified window of commissioning. Pricing is not published as a fixed schedule: obtain via SMA's local distributor or MySMA.
What’s covered
Defects in materials and workmanship
Covers manufacturing defects and material faults that stop the inverter performing its specified functions under normal operating and environmental conditions. SMA will, at its discretion, repair or replace the unit without charge for parts.
Replacement unit provision
Where a unit cannot be repaired, SMA supplies a replacement of equivalent specification, which may be refurbished. SMA may substitute a functionally equivalent model where the original has been superseded.
Exclusions
Labour and removal costs: Removal, reinstallation, and associated commissioning or electrical labour costs are not covered: they fall to the system owner or installer.
Damage from external causes: Lightning strike, power surges, flood, fire, incorrect installation, operation outside specified parameters, or use with incompatible equipment is excluded.
Consumable and wear components: Consumable or wear components: cooling fans, capacitors, display elements: may not be covered for the full term, particularly beyond the standard 5-year period.
Unauthorised service or modification: Any repair, modification, or opening of the unit carried out by parties not authorised by SMA will void the warranty in full.
Grid and site incompatibility: Damage or failure arising from grid supply irregularities, incorrect grid configuration, or installation not complying with applicable Australian Standards and Western Power network requirements is excluded.
Transferability
Not transferable to a subsequent owner without SMA's written consent. In practice, SMA does not routinely extend coverage to new owners after a property or business sale.
