Warranty period
10-year product and defects warranty
Tesla Motors Netherlands B.V. warrants the Powerwall 3 (Part Number 1707000-xx-x), which integrates the solar inverter, to be free from defects for ten years from initial installation. For non-compliance, Tesla will: at its sole discretion: repair, replace with an equivalent product, or refund the market price of an equivalent product at the time of the claim. Repaired or replaced units carry the remainder of the original period.
10-year energy capacity retention
Warranted energy capacity of 13.5 kWh at initial installation, retaining at least 70% (9.45 kWh) at ten years. For solar self-consumption, time-based control, or backup applications there is no cycle limit; for any other application, or a combination including one, aggregate throughput is capped at 37.8 MWh measured at the battery AC output.
What’s covered
Defects in materials and workmanship
Covers manufacturing defects and material failures, including in the integrated solar inverter: during normal operation over the ten-year period. Remedies, at Tesla's discretion: repair, replacement with an equivalent or refurbished unit, or a market-value refund.
Energy capacity shortfall
Usable capacity falling below 70% of the 13.5 kWh rating within ten years of installation (subject to applicable cycle or throughput limits) is a warrantable defect, with the same repair, replace, or refund remedies.
Subsequent owner eligibility
Transferable, a subsequent owner with proof of ownership may claim for the remainder of the original ten-year period. No transfer fee is specified.
Australian Consumer Law rights
Provided in addition to, and without excluding, restricting, or limiting: consumer guarantee rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Consumers remain entitled to replacement or refund for a major failure, and repair or replacement for failures to meet acceptable quality, for a reasonable period under the ACL.
Exclusions
Removal and reinstallation labour: Removal and reinstallation costs are not covered. Relocating the unit from its original installation site without Tesla's express written consent voids the warranty entirely.
Non-Tesla or non-certified installer work: Any storage, installation, commissioning, modification, repair, or opening of the external casing performed by anyone other than Tesla or a Tesla-certified installer voids the warranty.
Abuse, misuse, negligence, and force majeure: Defects or capacity shortfalls resulting from abuse, misuse, negligence, accidents, or force majeure events, including lightning, flood, earthquake, or fire: are excluded.
Failure to maintain internet connectivity or register: Tesla requires persistent internet connectivity for the remote firmware upgrades needed to honour the full ten-year warranty. Extended disconnection or non-registration may prevent Tesla honouring the full term, though a minimum four-year warranty applies regardless. Owners who did not buy directly from Tesla must register at tesla.com to preserve their entitlement.
Unauthorised modification: Any attempt to modify the Powerwall: whether by physical means, software, or programming: without Tesla's express written consent voids the warranty.
Normal wear and tear, cosmetic damage, and theft: Normal wear and tear, superficial defects, dents, marks, and non-excessive noise or vibration that do not affect performance are excluded. Theft of the unit or its components is also excluded.
Life-support and medical applications: Explicitly not warranted as a primary or backup power source for life-support systems or medical equipment. Tesla disclaims all liability for such use and may refuse service to units used in these applications.
No paid warranty extension available: No paid extension beyond the ten-year term is offered or referenced: the period is fixed at ten years from initial installation, with no advertised extension as at the document's effective date of February 2026.
Transferability
Transferable to subsequent owners for the remainder of the original ten-year period, on proof of ownership at claim time. No transfer fee is specified in the warranty document.
How to make a claim
Contact the supplying Tesla-certified installer first. If unavailable, or if purchased directly from Tesla, contact PowerwallSupportANZ@tesla.com or +61 1 800 294431 (Australia). Claims require proof of original purchase and any ownership transfers, a description of the alleged defect, serial number, and original installation date. Obtain an RMA number from Tesla before returning any product.
