Warranty period
Product warranty: 10 years
AlphaESS warrants the SMILE-G3 against defects in materials and workmanship for ten years from commissioning, repairing or replacing defective units or components at its discretion. The warranty period does not reset on replacement of a defective component.
Capacity retention guarantee: 70% after 10 years
AlphaESS guarantees the SMILE-G3 retains at least 70% of rated usable capacity at end of the ten-year term under normal operating conditions, typically expressed as a linear degradation schedule with prorated intermediate targets. Capacity claims must be demonstrated under the warranty document's specified test conditions; loss caused by misuse, operation outside specified temperature ranges, or non-compliant installation is excluded.
What’s covered
Defects in materials and workmanship
Covers manufacturing defects, component failures, and faults in the battery modules, Battery Management System (BMS), and enclosure under normal residential use. Remedy at AlphaESS's election: on-site repair or a replacement unit or module of equivalent specification.
Battery module replacement
The modular architecture allows individual battery modules to be replaced rather than the whole unit. For a confirmed capacity retention failure, AlphaESS replaces the minimum number of modules needed to restore warranted capacity, subject to compatible module availability at the time of claim.
Exclusions
Labour and reinstallation costs: Removal, reinstallation, and third-party on-site labour costs are not covered; they rest with the system owner or their installer.
Damage from improper installation or operation: Excludes damage from installation not performed by a qualified electrician per AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 5139, and AlphaESS instructions, or from operation outside specified voltage, temperature, and charge/discharge parameters.
Capacity loss from atypical use: Excludes capacity loss from ambient temperatures outside the specified range, deep cycling beyond recommended depth of discharge, or commercial and non-residential use.
Cosmetic damage and consumables: Excluded: scratches, dents, discolouration, normal enclosure wear, and consumables (fuses, contactors) worn through normal operation: unless failure stems from a manufacturing defect.
Force majeure and external events: Damage from lightning, flood, fire, grid power surges, acts of God, or other events beyond the manufacturer's control is excluded.
Non-authorised modifications: Any modification, repair, or firmware update performed by a party not authorised by AlphaESS will void the warranty in its entirety.
Transferability
Generally not transferable: the warranty is issued to the original purchaser and tied to the original installation site. Buyers of a property with an existing SMILE-G3 should confirm transferability with AlphaESS or its authorised distributor at purchase.
How to make a claim
Lodge claims through an AlphaESS authorised installer or distributor: in Australia, typically via the local distributor: with proof of purchase, commissioning date, system serial number, and a fault description. AlphaESS or its authorised service agent assesses whether repair or replacement is warranted; response times vary with parts availability and installation location.
