33 panels promise 25 years or more. 13 cover parts only.

A 25-year product warranty can mean three very different things. The current review.solar benchmark contains 33 active panel records at that duration or longer, yet 13 promise replacement parts without service or transport in the recorded terms. This living comparison separates the years from the remedy and the company expected to honour it.

The finding

33 panels currently record product warranties of 25 years or more. 13 are classified as parts only, 13 as parts plus service, and 5 as parts plus service and transport. A further 2 records are outside those three standard bands. The term and the remedy are separate comparison fields.

The years are not the remedy

This comparison uses the product warranty, the promise covering defects in the module, rather than the separate performance warranty that describes permitted power decline. A panel can publish a long performance curve while offering a shorter product remedy. Only active panel and thin-film records whose product-warranty field is at least 25 years enter this cohort.

Parts only means the current scorecard records a repair or replacement-part remedy but does not record service or transport in the same coverage band. Parts plus service adds a service or labour component. Parts plus service and transport also records movement or shipping in the remedy. These are benchmark comparison bands, not substitutes for the complete warranty wording.

Every qualifying panel, on the same five questions

The table is generated from the same records as the charts. Evidence labels matter: sourced means a criterion is tied to published evidence in the audit sheet; estimated remains visible as an editorial estimate and should not be read with the same certainty. 33 of 80 active panel and thin-film records currently meet the 25-year product-warranty threshold. A market tag appears only where the benchmark records one; absence of a tag is not a claim of global coverage.

The strongest wording can still have weak backing

A warranty is a future obligation. Its usefulness therefore depends on both the written remedy and the legal manufacturer or responsible local entity still being able to perform it. In this cohort, 18 records carry a stable or financially strong backing entry, 2 carry a sourced financial-distress note, and 13 do not yet carry a completed backing field. The chart does not convert those facts into a forecast.

Financial flags on review.solar are factual context, kept separate from engineering scores. They do not declare that a product is defective or that a claim will fail. Likewise, a stable or strong entry cannot guarantee that a claim will be accepted. It tells the reader what current evidence exists about the entity behind a multi-decade promise.

Two related Findings show why this layer matters: the SunPower, Maxeon and TCL company map separates brand from legal manufacturer, while the Panasonic EverVolt exit record shows how a respected product line can leave the market before every expected service life is complete.

Local consumer rights sit beside the manufacturer wording

This is a global comparison, but warranty documents and statutory rights are market-specific. In Australia, the ACCC states that consumer guarantees for solar products and installation services are automatic and separate from a manufacturer's voluntary warranty. A parts-only manufacturer classification therefore does not remove rights that may exist against a supplier under Australian Consumer Law. Other markets allocate rights and responsible parties differently, so buyers should confirm the law and contract that apply where the system is installed.

Australian legal context: ACCC, Solar panel systems and home batteries. This article is comparative research, not legal advice.

What to verify before treating 25 years as 25 years

Before signing

Four checks turn a headline term into a usable warranty.

  1. 01
    Exact model and market

Match the model code, source-market document, purchase date and registration requirements.

  2. 02
    Remedy scope

Separate replacement parts from diagnosis, site labour, removal, reinstallation and freight.

  3. 03
    Claim route

Identify the retailer, installer, importer or manufacturer that must receive and progress a claim.

  4. 04
    Backing

Read the legal manufacturer and current company-status evidence alongside the number of years.

A long duration is useful evidence, but it is only one layer of the purchase decision. Confirm the current local warranty before contract.

A useful quote should name the exact panel model, attach the applicable warranty document, identify who pays diagnosis, labour and freight, and state which business handles the claim. The benchmark can narrow that investigation; it cannot replace the final contract or the current terms supplied in the buyer's market.

This article moves with the benchmark

The URL and original publication date stay fixed. At every site build, this finding reselects all active panel records at 25 product-warranty years or more, then recalculates its headline, charts, table, linked scorecards and source trail. A newly added qualifying product enters automatically. A product moved to the archive leaves the current cohort but remains available in the historical record.

The underlying active panel evidence was most recently verified on 16 August 2026. Explore the full panel leaderboard, build a shortlist in Compare, or read how evidence states are treated in the methodology. Corrections can be submitted through the evidence correction route.
